As you probably heard, R-134A is being phased out due to its global warming potential (GWP). Unlike the CFC and HCFC phaseouts,

  • R - 134A refrigerant production will not be restricted but the equipment that uses it will be. The equipment phaseout will be as follows:

  • 2021 - Automobiles for this model year (cars produced in 2020)

  • 1/1/2021 - Domestic refrigerators and freezers.

  • 1/1/2024 Centrifugal and positive displacement equipment.
